Protect your On-Premises Assets against Ransomware on AWS leveraging Veeam for DR

This blog will illustrate how to protect your On-Premises Assets against Ransomware on AWS by leveraging Veeam for DR

Ransomware is malicious software that encrypts a victim’s file thereby making it unavailable and later demanding a ransom payment in exchange for the decryption key. Cloud-based DR solutions are on the rise and organizations use these DR solutions to protect their on-premises assets from ransomware attacks.

In the DR solution, the backup data is stored in a different location and can be accessed only with authentication, making it harder for the ransomware to encrypt or delete the backups.

Veeam backup and replication is a method in Disaster Recovery solution that is used to backup and recover virtualized environments such as those running on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

We, at 1CloudHub, enable our clients by setting up a different kind of disaster recovery system to assist their business continuity. For our clients, we have implemented DR leveraging Veeam, a robust solution that helps to protect data and minimize the impact of disasters.

Why On-premises assets need cloud-computing protection against ransomware:

Cloud-based Protection offers an added layer of security for on-premises assets and helps enterprises quickly restore data in case of a ransomware attack.

1. Backup and Recovery: In the event of a ransomware attack, cloud-based backup solutions store data in offline mode.
2. Multiple Copies: Veeam creates multiple copies of backups and store it in separate locations that reduce the risk of data loss due to ransomware attack.
3. Security: Veeam encrypts backups and store them in tamper-proof containers thereby providing a secured and advanced Disaster Recovery Solution.

AWS on Veeam is a preferred solution

Veeam Backup & Replication makes it simple to back up and restore data to and from AWS, helping businesses to scale their backup and recovery functionalities. AWS supports high availability and durability features such as Amazon S3, making sure the backups are available and protected from failures. Veeam Backup and Replication can be integrated with other AWS services like Amazon SNS, Amazon SQS, and CloudWatch that enable backup and recovery activities when a threat occurs.

Values we added

With a hardened repository in on-premises Veeam and the S3 object lock enabled in AWS, we have immutability and ransomware protection on both on-premises and AWS. SureBackup is a Veeam built-in feature that enables us to run a scheduled job to scan and validate the backup data for any malware, thus ensuring the integrity of the backup. While implementing DR with Veeam, we have implemented the setup with the 3-2-1-1-0 Rule, which states that three copies of backup are stored across two different media, with one backup being stored off-site. With backup integrity features, Veeam helps us to run automatic backup verification for zero backup errors.

Overall, Veeam Backup & Replication automates the disaster recovery process and helps organizations quickly recover their data in the event of a disaster. By using Veeam Backup and Replication we can create backups, replicate data, and execute failover.

We, at 1CloudHub, have years of expertise in establishing Disaster Recovery systems for different customers with varied requirements.
