Solution Requirements
The customer has time-consuming and expensive to manage MySQL databases on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances.
The Customer had an existing data size of 200 GB and needed to migrate to the Amazon RDS MySQL database
It has been expected to grow yearly by 350 GB in size and it has a total of 283 tables in the database in total.
Planned to migrate the entire database to MySQL RDS for faster performance and availability.
Solution
Plan the migration
Configure the source: Oracle database on EC2 instance
Configure the target: Amazon RDS for MySQL
Configure AWS SCT and create a schema in the target database
Migrate data using AWS DMS
Migrate the application and cut over
Validate the schema and data in source vs. target databases.
Outcome
The read performance of the database has been increased thus application performance was increased
The availability of the application has been increased
